Bebo-Bhai: a jinxed jodi?
Kareena Kapoor and Salman Khan may be among the leading actors in Bollywood as of now, but strangely, their pairing on screen has not exactly been the most saleable. Leave aside modestly successful, the Bhai-Bebo jodi has actually been a disastrous one at the box office. But with their new film Bodyguard, they are both hoping to break that “curse”.
“It’s strange that the hottest superstars in the business haven’t managed to deliver a hit together,” says a filmmaker on condition of anonymity. “But whether it was the choice of an unconventional subject or the lack of a solid script, Sallu and Kareena’s previous ventures: Main Aur Mrs Khanna and Kyon Ki, failed dismally. The star power of Sallu and Bebo was simply not made use of.”
With so much history, Bodyguard director Atul Agnihotri should be feeling the pressure — but he is surprisingly calm, saying, “Salman and Kareena look good together on screen and that is what matters.” So will Bodyguard break the jinx?
