Bees saal baad, akki rules
August 23 marks 20 years in Bollywood for Akshay Kumar, as his first solo starrer, Dancer, released on the same day in 1991. Here are some little known facts about Akki’s career:
Akki’s rivals when he first started out were Awinash Wadhavan, Ronit Roy, Kamal Sadanah, Prithvi and Ravi Behl (apart from the Khans of course).
Akki has had seven outings with the title “khiladi”: Khiladi, Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Sabse Bada Khiladi, Mr and Mrs Khiladi, Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi, International Khiladi and Khiladi 420.
Akki has worked most with the late Keshu Ramsay, who started it all for the actor with the not-much-heard-of Mr Bond. Then followed 10 other films: Ashant, Paandav, Sabse Bada Khiladi, Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi, Mr And Mrs Khiladi, International Khiladi, Khiladi 420, Khakee, Insan and Family — Ties Of Blood.
Dil Toh Paagal Hai, Om Shanti Om, Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai and Chalo Dilli mark the rare special appearances that Akki has agreed to in his career.
Akki’s dream of working with Sridevi came true when they co-starred in Meri Biwi Ka Jawab Nahi. However, the film was much delayed and went unnoticed.
