Big B to play an angry old man

The legendary superstar is back and angry. The promos of Amitabh Bachchan’s next Bbuddah...Hoga Terra Baap are out and they are proudly proclaiming that the legendary superstar is returning in his original avatar. While it has been pretty much established that this July release would pick up from where Bachchan left in his earlier films like Deewar, Shahenshah, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar and more, it also means that for the audience, there would be a different Bachchan to be seen in the coming months.
“He is playing his age in Bbuddah...Hoga Terra Baap as well as Aarakshan. However, while the former is appearing to be an out and masala fare, the latter is expected to take a more realistic route. It remains to be seen whether Bachchan would be seen as an angry old man in Prakash Jha’s Aarakshan,” says a veteran filmmaker. Prakash Jha has roped in Bachchan as a college principal named Prabhakar Anand.
Even though the promos of Bbuddah... has garnered instant attention for itself due to its inherent flamboyance, writer-director Jha is undeterred and says that Bachchan’s character is quite strong in Aarakshan.
“Is Prabhakar Anand as angry as Vijay Deenanth Chauhan? It is difficult for me to say,” says Jha adding, “All I can say is that Mr Bachchan has played his part perfectly well.”
Jha hints though that in a set up like this, flamboyance does take a backseat. “When Prabhakar Anand faces a challenge, he executes it with a lot of dignity,” says Jha.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
