Big B sings praise for Tagore’s ode
So you might have heard by now that Amitabh Bachchan has rendered a version of Rabindranath Tagore’s patriotic ode, Ekla Cholo, in Kahaani.
And while it was a dream come true indeed for director Sujoy Ghosh, Bachchan saab also admits that it the opportunity to perform Rabindrasangeet was one he considered a privilege and an honour.
“Singing Rabindrasangeet for the first time was a revelation,” the legend says. “The beauty of the language, the lyricism, the dhun are all outstanding. This song — which espouses that if no one comes at your calling, walk alone — is truly award worthy.”
Sujoy, in the meantime, is walking on air. “Bachchan saab was one of the reasons I took to filmmaking,” he says. “Kahaani was Vidya Balan’s film all the way through, but I’m glad I persuaded Bachchan saab, who is considered Bengal’s son-in-law, to sing Ekla Cholo.”
