Big-ticket entertainers feel the pressure
With films like Kahaani and Paan Singh Tomar hitting the bull’s eye at the box office, big-ticket entertainers are beginning to feel the pressure to live up to the hype that surrounds them.
A stupendous `300 crore is riding on Saif Ali Khan, Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar in their impending releases — Agent Vinod, Housefull 2 and Tezz respectively.
A trade veteran says, “These films are expected to earn at least `100 crores each because they are made on a budget of around `50-75 crores. Besides their theatrical run, a huge sum is expected from the satellite and other rights, such as music and home video.”
Moreover, one cannot discount that these films are the makers’ most ambitious project till date. “Saif has been slogging on this dream venture Agent Vinod for over two years now; Sajid Khan has broken all casting records in Housefull 2 and roped nearly every big name in Bollywood, be it contemporary or veteran; and Tezz is Priyadarshan’s most expensive film till date, not to mention his first commercial venture in action too,” an industry source points out.
Let’s hope the hype is worth our money. Fingers crossed!
