Black Friday for B’wood?
The coming Friday, Bollywood would be setting a record of sorts with several medium budget films clashing with each other on the box office. Rani Mukerjis’s Aiyyaa is the biggest film followed by Ram Gopal Varma’s Bhoot Returns. There’s also Manoj Bajpayee starrer Chittagong, which has been widely appreciated by critics. Friday will also see the release Makkhi, dubbed version of Telugu blockbuster Eega and small films like Chandrachur Singh starrer Prem Mayee and In the Name of Tai.
“It is simply inexplicable and plain suicidal,” says a veteran filmmaker, and considering both English Vinglish and OMG! Oh My God are doing pretty well, it would be difficult for any other film to break in, says an industry insider.
Besides there are two Hollywood films — Taken 2 and Looper — are also releasing this Friday, and that will further divide the multiplex audience. Expect a pile of disasters to accumulate,” he adds.
