Bobby goes missing from Players
The first major Bollywood movie of 2012, Players, is almost ready for release, and the promotional activities are on in full swing. The entire powerful cast of this Abbas-Mustan caper is diligently promoting the film, except, for one: Bobby Deol. Bobby, who’s not had a Bollywood release since Yamla Pagla Deewana earlier this year, has kept a surprisingly low profile, making one wonder if all is well with Bobby and the rest of the Players gang.
“It is rather surprising,” says a PR expert. “In times when every actor goes all out to promote their films, Bobby is very quiet. He hasn’t even been giving media bytes. All the more surprising since he’s the senior most member of the star-studded cast of Players.” Not just that, Bobby is also the only one whose films did some credible business in 2011.
However, an insider spills the beans about Bobby’s absence on condition of anonymity: “Bobby is the surprise element in the film; the role wasn’t even there in the original Italian Job. He isn’t heard about much because it’s a newly written part. Abbas-Mustan also feel the character should surprise the audience, and they shouldn’t come to the theatres with any pre-conceived notions.”
Bobby, who’s worked with the director duo in several films before, may just be the real player, for all we know.
