Brazil poised for reel Aamir
While the real Aamir Khan is packing kicks and punches in Chicago, Brazil is welcoming the superstar in his reel avatar. His blockbuster film Fanaa, which had released in India more than half a decade ago, saw a theatrical release in Brazil this weekend.
Curiously, this development has even caught those associated with the film by surprise. When contacted, Kunal Kohli, the director of the film, appeared surprised at the developments. “It’s news to me and quite a fascinating one at that. It’s quite humbling to see a film of mine travel across the world after six years. More than anything else, this is good news for Indian cinema. I hope the film makes an impact there and opens more doors for the industry,” he said.
Given the number of theatres and shows that have been planned for the film, looks like it will enjoy a long stay. A source informs, “The film is neither seeing a festival release nor is part of any delegation. It’s having a mainstream release.” This can be proven from the fact that the film has arrived nationwide across the states of Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Bahia, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, Pernambuco and Maranho Federal District. This also makes it a massive arrival for not just an Aamir-film but any Bollywood film in the country. It’s also being looked at as a flagship collaboration between Brazil and India.
We wonder if it’s the “perfectionist” effect.
