Chance pe (belly) dance
Farah Khan is all set to surprise Katrina Kaif on her birthday this year. As a birthday gift, Farah has planned to fly in a belly dancer from Brazil to train Katrina in the dance form.
But this is not as impromptu as it sounds. Incidentally, Farah will be picturising a belly dancing item number in her forthcoming film Tees Maar Khan. And since the actress has no prior background on the dance form, Farah decided to have her specially trained for the purpose. The choreographer-turned-director feels that this number has the potential to become Katrina’s biggest blockbuster in her career. “She will have the complete look of an international belly dancer in the song,” says Farah. The song is titled Sheela Ki Jawani.
Right now Katrina is busy shooting for Zoya Akhtar’s forthcoming movie Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara in Spain. But she will soon be flying back to Mumbai for her training sessions.
However, it’s not all work for Katrina. The entire team of Zoya Akhtar’s Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara arranged a surprise birthday bash for the actress at the stroke of midnight, after a hectic day of shooting. Soon after Katrina took a day off to be with family in London and celebrate the special day.
Speaking about the song, Farah says, “This song will be my birthday gift to Katrina,” adding, “It is a full-on Madhuri Dixit and Beyonce kind of number. We have already done a ghagra choli number earlier with her. This song has a western tune but the arrangement is like that of a local Indian street band. We have also got a local band to record the song with folk beats with a western touch.” Farah says that the whole idea of making Katrina belly dance is to outshine the moves of Shakira.
Speaking further on Kat’s character, Farah says, “I’ve named her character after my daughter Anya. She is a very today’s kind of girl, who’s very filmi and loves to dance and this song will be her first song in the movie.”
The director sounds very upbeat and excited about her new venture, and can’t stop raving about her leading lady. “It’s going to be fun. She’s going to enjoy the role. I’m planning to present her very differently, with a lot of Indian clothes. She’s also got a funny Goldie Hawn kind of role in the film. And i must say that her comic timing is fantastic. We will have three big songs in the film. We have almost finished 55 per cent of the shooting and we are planning to release the film on December 24,” reveals Farah.
