Clash of the Youth Titans II
They’ve previously shrugged off talk of rivalry, but this time, the direct competition between the hottest stars of Youngistan may be a little more difficult to ignore. We’re talking about Imran Khan and Ranbir Kapoor, who have been set up for a box office clash, come January 2013. The films in question are Imran’s Matru Ki Bijli Ka Mandola, being helmed by Vishal Bhardwaj, and Ranbir’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. While Vishal had announced the January release date for Matru a while ago, Yeh Jawaani’s release plans have only just been revealed by Karan Johar, and tradewallahs are already placing bets on which film will make the bigger impact.
“There’s always an attempt within the industry to avoid a clash of this sort because both parties then need to go the extra mile during promotional tours to ensure that their film stands out,” a source shared.
The clash should be all the more interesting since Imran has had five commercial hits in a row (Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, Delhi Belly, Break Ke Baad and I Hate Luv Storys) while Ranbir has cornered critical acclaim with his roles in Rockstar and Rajneeti. Of course, the two stars have laughed off most comparisons, even while being unable to deny that they’re looking to break into the topmost bracket of B’town’s stars.
We wonder how Imran feels about KJo (his Ek Main producer) setting up this clash...
