A comedy of errors, really
One would have thought William Shakespeare’s Comedy Of Errors would make for a fabulous Hindi movie plot, like it did with the 1982 film Angoor. Director Pahlaj Nihilani also thought the same, and he set about remaking the Sanjiv Kumar film and the Bard’s play, this time with Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role. The only problem is that the real comedy of errors seems to be playing out in real life. Pahlaj, who has produced many hit films in the 90s including the Govinda-Chunkey Pandey comedy Aankhen, wanted his upcoming Ranbir starrer to be a mish-mash of Comedy Of Errors, Angoor and his own Aankhen, also a tale of mistaken identities.
Ranbir, though, says he hasn’t even heard of this film. “Ranbir has no idea how he came to be associated with the film. He hasn’t heard about the film and it hasn’t been offered to him yet. It’s strange that the so-called remake, which is supposed to star him, will go on floors soon,” says a close associate of the actor. “This isn’t true,” Ranbir says, categorically denying the rumours. “In fact, leave aside working on the film, I haven’t even met Mr Pahalaj Nihalani.”
To add to this messed up state of affairs is Shahid Kapoor, who has also been approached for the film (or so we hear). While Shahid remained unavailable for comment, this real-life comedy of errors just keeps getting confusing.
