Debutants stay away
A-list actors in Bollywood these days are more than willing to work with first-time directors, unlike in the past when they would stay a mile away from debutants. One person who still has a problem with newcomers though is Katrina Kaif. The actress has said a complete “no” to working under first-time directors, and has also instructed her team to not entertain offers which involve a debutant at the helm.
“She is in a position to take a call on how she wants to mould her career,” says a friend. And considering the intense competition among top rung actresses, with even a single hit or flop determining a major change in the pecking order — as Priyanka Chopra found out the hard way — every film one takes up is fraught with risk. Kat, it would seem, is in no mood to take any.
“She has become extremely selective about her films. Most producers know that Katrina won’t settle for anything but the best, so they are apprehensive about approaching her. She has declined many offers that she was unsure about, but at her level she can certainly afford it,” says a source close to her.
