Emraan’s come a long way
Emraan Hashmi is a happy man these days. For starters, he isn’t associated with the “serial kisser” tag anymore. With Ghanchakkar up for release and filmmakers like Karan Johar, Ekta Kapoor and Danis Tanovic wanting to work with him, he is letting his acting prowess speak for himself.
“Five years ago, some of them were not even touching me with a barge pole. Today we are talking about making movies together. I have come a long way. This has been possible only because of box office results,” says Emraan. Does it mean Bhatt-Hashmi fans won’t see them collaborating anytime soon? “After delivering hits like Jannat, Murder and Raaz, it is essential to come up with something great in terms of idea and execution. We should be starting something next year,” he says.
Emraan also has an international commercial film called White Lies. But his definition of “commercial” has evolved. “In our industry, the word ‘commercial’ has four or five different meanings. It is an ambiguous term. I wouldn’t want to label my films like that. White Lies could penetrate anywhere across the globe with its subject. However, I can’t tell you on paper that this is an ‘X’ number that it will eventually clock,” he says with a smile. He has another movie with Kareena Kapoor and debutant director Akshay Roy that will go on floors soon. He says, “We want to talk about it once Akshay has the final draft of the film in place.”
