Equal to Aamir
Has Aamir Khan finally met his match? Read on, and tell us…
It is common knowledge that when Aamir takes up any project, it becomes his own in every possible way. From looking into the production aspect to allegations of ghost directing, plenty’s been said about Aamir’s penchant for perfectionism. But when it comes to his much-anticipated film with Reema Kagti (Talaash), it seems Aamir has willingly taken a backseat.
“With all the talk surrounding Peepli Live, Taare Zameen Par and Dhobi Ghat, one expected something of a similar nature to happen with Talaash as well,” says an industry veteran. “However, Reema has impressed Aamir so much, that he doesn’t see any reason to interfere.”
What helped convince Aamir to let Reema maintain sole creative control of the project was her grip on the script and characters. “Once she had narrated the script to him, Aamir felt that Reema knew what she was talking about,” says a crewmember on condition of anonymity.
This is quite surprising as until now, Rajkumar Hirani is perhaps one of the few filmmakers whom Aamir has trusted enough to give a free rein. Also, in his capacity as co-producer (along with Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar), Aamir would have been within his rights to oversee Reema’s work, so his not doing so, speaks volumes on Reema’s behalf. “Reema is too strong-minded a person to start dictating terms to,” said Ritesh. “Aamir also realises that he is in good hands.”
