From fashion disaster to fashion muse
Vidya Balan, who was last seen dressed in Sabyasachi’s creation at the Delhi Coutre Week recently, can’t stop raving about the Kolkata lad. “Sabyasachi is the only designer I stalk,” she said at the show.
Vidya’s quintessential Indian image has often found favour among the designer circle. And now there are many noted designers who are creating Indian wear keeping the actress as their muse. However, it might be interesting to recall that not until recently Vidya was heavily criticised for her sense of dressing but the actress remained mum through it all. But ultimately it was Sabyasachi who salvaged her image, by giving her the look she needed, and it was part of the designer’s ethnic collection.
Earlier, during the making of Heyy Babyy in 2007, Vidya had a fall out with designer Manish Malhotra after which she refused to use anything made by the designer. Since then two had not been on talking terms until Paa happened and the actress decided to take the first step to make things right. And the latest that was heard suggested that they are friends now and Manish is happy that Vidya clarified that the fashion debacle in Heyy Babby was not the designer’s fault.
Perhaps because of her history, Vidya is opting to play safe and sport the traditional Indian look only. Although, it won’t be surprising if she dons Manish’s creations for her forthcoming film, now that their differences have been ironed out.
