Geet returns to B’wood
Imtiaz Ali’s Jab We Met is an iconic Bollywood movie, so much so that even four years after its release, it’s still remembered fondly by its fans. Especially so, Kareena Kapoor’s turn as the loud and vivacious Geet. In fact, for the upcoming Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, Kareena’s character is said to be along similar lines.
“After Jab We Met, Kareena has played largely serious characters. She realises that her audiences have been rooting to see Geet all over again, and that’s what she is trying to do as Raina Braganza in Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu,” says a source.
But while the personality traits of Bebo’s characters may be similar, their backgrounds couldn’t be more different. “While Geet was an earthy Punjabi girl, Raina is a Catholic girl settled in Las Vegas. But both are impulsive, quirky, talkative and have a free-minded soul,” says Karan Johar, agreeing that it’s quite a crowd pleasing role.
Debutant director Shakun Batra also says that while the similarities do exist, they have tried to bring in some individuality as well. “Geet has become such a popular character that it’s a symbol for everything happy-go-lucky. And Raina is one such person. But what Imtiaz did has become a benchmark of sorts. Kareena and I were conscious of that, so we have worked upon the dialogues and its delivery to bring in our own touch, so it looks like there is a certain newness to it,” he says.
