When it comes to news about Kangna Ranaut, we’re sorry to say our favourite fashionista tends to be associated more with unfortunate reports than good ones. But finally, the actress seems to have some bonafide good news to share.

In what may prove to be one of her more powerful roles, right up there with Once Upon A Time In Mumbai and Fashion, Kangy will be playing a courtesan in Vishwas Patil’s Rajjo. With Meena Kumari and Rekha among the legendary actresses who have portrayed the most memorable and tragic courtesan roles, Kangy knows that she has some phenomenal precedents to live up to. “The film is based on the life of a courtesan. And no one in the history of Indian cinema has played a courtesan better than Meena Kumari or Rekha. Kangna is very excited about getting a chance to pay a tribute to them,” her spokesperson shared with us.
Shooting for the film will begin in mid-2013. In the meantime, Kangy is busy preparing for her big role. “She has been watching films like Umrao Jaan and Pakeezah to learn the finer nuances of the mujra. She has also started training in the dance form,” her spokesperson added.
