Global honour for Vidya
Vidya Balan adds one more feather to her cap. The superstar will be honoured as the brand ambassador of the Film Festival of Melbourne for the second time. Vidya will be attending a gala function in Melbourne that will celebrate the film festival as well as 100 years of Indian cinema.
“It’ll be a demonstration of our growing cultural links, creativity and innovation that Melbourne and Mumbai are both famous for,” said Lousie Asher, minister for innovation, services and small businesses, Australia.
According to sources, Vidya, will be making an appearance in a dazzling designer sari. “As is the case with every public function she attends, Vidya is extremely particular about the way she looks. Since she will be representing Indian cinema on a global platform, she will be clad in her trademark sari to sport an Indian look,” says a source close to the actress. Vidya’s last two blockbusters — The Dirty Picture and Kahaani — made her a name to reckon with, not just in India but also abroad. The film festival will showcase some of the most iconic Indian films of the last century, which will include Raja Harishchandra (1913). The event will also witness the Australian premiere of Mira Nair’s The Reluctant Fundamentalist.
