Good to be single
After a hugely successful Raajneeti, Ranbir Kapoor is set to blaze the screen with his second movie this year, Anjaana Anjaani, in which he romances Priyanka Chopra for the first time. Talking of the film, Ranbirs says it’s about, “Two strangers who meet on a bridge while trying to commit suicide. One is stranger than the other. They
discover love and fun together. Every love story starts with two people who don’t know each other. They start spending time and get to know one another and they realise how much they matter to each other.” No wonder it goes with the tag line — a strange love story.
Ranbir has been in a couple of relationships himself, so what lessons has he learnt from them? Does he hold any grudges? “I have had three relationships in my life. They all have been beautiful, helped me become a better person and understand relationships better. That’s how relationships are. Sometimes things work and sometimes they don’t. I still talk to all my ex-girlfriends and we are good friends,” he says candidly.
So is he in touch with Deepika Padukone? “Deepika is still a very dear friend. It is just that we are not girlfriend and boyfriend anymore. We still meet whenever we can. We have common friends and I am extremely proud of her as an actor and a human being.”
When they were seeing each other, Deepika had got Ranbir’s initials tattooed on her nape. Does he think she will continue to keep it? “Well, it is her choice. I am sure when she meets someone, she will remove it. If she does not remove it, it is up to her. Her conscience is clear and she knows what she is doing,” comes the reply.
But why did they break up, was there someone else? “It is not that any external force was behind the break-up. We were two people trying to make a relationship work. If it does not work, it does not work!”
He’s been single for a while now, doesn’t he feel lonely? “It is great to have somebody in your life, but being single has its advantages. You can enjoy doing things you might not do when you are in a relationship. You get more time with your friends, family and work. You have more time to think about what you want to achieve. It is an important time in your life,” says Ranbir.
His growing friendship with co-star of many films Katrina Kaif must be keeping him good company. Is it true that he follows her wherever she goes? “People don’t have to know about when and where I meet her. It is not just about Katrina, when you know someone and meet them for lunch, it does not mean something is happening. If you know that a friend of yours is in town, won’t you go meet him or her?”
Okay, Katrina is a friend, but what about Salman Khan? “I have the highest regards for Mr Salman Khan. He was with me when I started my career and has been my favourite actor. He treats me like a younger brother and we share a good relationship. Our families are close too and my father just loves him.”
