Grand Masti goes strong

Despite being written off by the critics, Grand Masti seems to be doing great business at the box office. In fact, it has beaten Vidya Balan-starrer The Dirty Picture in terms of revenue (`82 crores) and gone on to become the highest grossing adult film of all times. The film seems to be doing well in spite of other releases such as Phata Poster Nikla Hero and The Lunchbox.
Director Indra Kumar always seemed confident that the film would do well. Grand Masti writer, Milap Zaveri says, “At the writing stage itself, Induji was confident that the film would do a business of `100 crores. After he saw the first cut, he was convinced that it would do a business of `150 crores. We had to curb his enthusiasm and say that ‘sir, we should all be happy even if it crosses 67-70 crores’. Guess he is having the last laugh now.”
While `150 crore may be over ambitious, something that Indra Kumar may have said in jest, the countdown has indeed begun for the film’s `100 crore milestone.
