Guzaarish for Barfi!

Ever since the promos of Anurag Basu’s Barfi! have been released online, there has been praise galore for Ranbir Kapoor. The glimpses of his nuanced performance have been enough to get industrywallahs ooh-aahing and predicting an awards season sweep for the Youngistan star.

But we wouldn’t advise Ranbir to rest easy just as yet. “These are the same kind of things that were said about Hrithik Roshan in Guzaarish as well, when Sanjay Leela Bhansali brought his ‘painting’ on celluloid. But while the film was a critical success, it was a commercial disaster. Moreover, with Anurag not having earned any brownie points for Kites, the industry is going to play a wait and watch game with Barfi!” a trade expert commented.
