High on Saat Khoon Maaf

Unfazed by his last two debacles, Jail and Lafangey Parindey, Neil Nitin Mukesh is quite kicked about his role in Vishal Bhardwaj’s upcoming film Saat Khoon Maaf. Even though he doesn’t have a meaty role, Neil says that the sheer opportunity of sharing screen space with Priyanka Chopra made him take it up. And one can’t really say no when a director like Vishal Bharadwaj offers you a role.
“I learnt a lot from both of them. Vishal Bhardwaj is one director who never gives up. He is calm and quiet and completely the opposite of the characters he depicts in his films. He speaks through his creativity. This is one film where you can’t be selfish and greedy,” says Neil. He feels that being a part of the film gave him a big high. “It was quite an achievement for me to be a part of Vishal’s film. It’s not the length but the strength of the role that is important. Of course, I would have loved to have an entire film to myself, but then you can’t have a cake entirely by yourself,” he adds.
He also raves about his co-star Priyanka Chopra who he shares a great comfort level with. “Priyanka is a great actor herself and she moulds herself so comfortably. She is completely relaxed on the sets and knows her scene, which gives so much more scope to the actors opposite her. She is very flexible too,” says Neil.
Neil for the first time has done away with his bearded look in the film and sounds excited. “You will see a new me. Even director Vishal Bharadwaj didn’t recognise me. I love the flow of the role,” he says.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
