How Rishi agreed to do Agneepath
Fans of the original Agneepath would know there was no villain in it named Rauf Lala. But in Karan Johar’s version of the film, Rishi Kapoor is playing a butcher by profession and an underworld gangster who goes by this name. Rishi, who has acted in more than 125 films in a career spanning four decades, has never played such a menacing villain before.
Even after he was offered the role, he initially refused it, because he doubted whether he would be able to do justice. Also, his image of a romantic, chocolate boy hero might harm the role. “Director Karan Malhotra insisted he step into the role though, and convinced Rishi over three months, when finally he relented and agreed,” says a close associate.
“Yes, I did irritate and torture him till he said yes, but it was all worth it,” says Karan. “He was way too modest when he had earlier said that he might harm the film.”
