I am very desi: Pallavi
Born and brought up in Australia, Pallavi Sharda, who stars opposite Ranbir Kapoor in Besharam, is very comfortable playing a desi heroine. “Despite growing up in Australia, I am very desi in all respects. I don’t have an accent either,” says Pallavi who has earlier done smaller roles in films such as Dus Tola, Love Breakups Zindagi, My Name Is Khan and Heroine.
We asked Pallavi what made director Abhinav Kashyap choose her over other contenders vying for the role. “Abhinav has a strong point of view when it comes to casting. If you look at Dabangg, Sonakshi had a strong role to play. She wasn’t sidelined. Even in Besharam, it is the heroine’s role that drives home a key message,” she says letting out an important dialogue from the film. “Remember Sonakshi’s dialogue ‘thapad se dar nahin lagta’? My character has one such powerful dialogue too. It goes like, ‘Kisi galat kaam ko karne ka koi sahi tareeka nahi hota’.
So did she take tips from her co-actor Ranbir for dialogue delivery? “I asked for advice when I needed it. We did workshops and spent some time together before the shoot started. So once we were on the sets, it was relatively easy. Now the job was to just get the scenes right,” she says.
