I need a bound script: Pria

She has styled several big names in Bollywood in the past but it’s only with Zanjeer that designer Pria Kataria Puri has stepped into full-fledged film styling. She has styled the film’s actresses, Priyanka Chopra and Mahi Gill.

Pria says, “Both actresses have a sexy personality in the film and the clothes had to reflect that. Usually the clothes are decided one day prior to the shoot, but that doesn’t work for me. I like to do a lot of research to understand the character. I prefer having a script in front of me at times and I need time to know exactly what to do. I like to be prepared ahead of time and have a few options in hand.”
In the past Pria has received offers to style for films but none of them excited her. “I have a lot of producer and director friends in the industry. About 10 years ago, I was offered to style a film but I was hesitant because they didn’t have a bound script.” The designer’s camaraderie with director Apoorva Lakhia helped to a large extent. “Apoorva is a very good friend and he was very interested in the designing and styling of the film. He was also ready with a bound script. I had all the reasons to take up Zanjeer.”
And she had a good time indeed working on the film. “I bonded with Priyanka and Mahi over our lunch breaks. We had a lot of fun.” Her Bollywood clientele includes Tabu, Bipasha Basu, Zarine Khan and Shraddha Kapoor among others. “This is the first time I am styling for a film and I am happy with what I have done. I am pretty excited because I am already getting a lot of calls from people who have loved Priyanka and Mahi’s look in the film. They are very fresh and different.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
