‘I play the soul, the happiness’
We waited for a year to see Priyanka Chopra on the big screen, but Don 2 was still a let-down. Prepare to put all your eggs in the Agneepath basket.
Your role in Agneepath seems quite similar to the one you essayed in Kaminey.
Yes, I am playing a Maharashtrian girl in Agneepath like I did in Kaminey. When director Karan Malhotra and I were discussing the film, we wanted to keep the character a little different. The personalities of the two characters are different. Karan was very clear about the character of Kaali, and that made it easy for me.
What did you like about Kaali?
She is the soul, the happiness and the naughtiness in the film, which I liked a lot. She is Vijay’s (Hrithik) strength.
Have you seen the original Agneepath?
I had not seen the original Agneepath till Karan offered me the role. So in a way, we are trying to ensure that our generation can experience such beautiful films. I think Karan has done it beautifully and in his own way. There is no comparison to the original film, and we have never been trying or attempting to reach that level.
Do you think that the remake of a cult film works?
It works because if not for remakes like Don and Agneepath, today’s generation may not have seen these cult classics.
