Ileana finds a new voice
Anurag Basu might have cast Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor as mute characters in Barfi, but the director has also given a new voice to the third actor—Ileana D’Cruz. The South siren, despite having more than a dozen movies to her credit in Kollywood, has not once dubbed for any of them.
Born and brought up in Mumbai and then Goa, Ileana in her long stint in the South, did not manage to pick up either Tamil or Telugu and continued using dubbing artists for her characters. And it’s not just the movies. Even the commercials done by the actress were dubbed by professional artistes.
So when Anurag asked Ileana to dub for her own role in her Bollywood debut Barfi, the actress was understandably unnerved.
“Yes, I had butterflies in my stomach as I have never dubbed despite being in the industry for six long years. I asked Anurag if he wanted me to go through some special diction training or something of that sort, but he asked me to just relax and take it easy,” smiles Ileana further adding, “Thankfully it didn’t turn out to be as nightmarish as I had expected. It wasn’t that bad after all.”
