‘Imran the best Matru’
From its unusual name to its changing star cast, everything about Vishal Bharadwaj’s Matru Ki Bijli Ka Mandola made headlines ever since it was announced. The buzz was that the film was originally offered to Vishal’s then favourite, Ajay Devgn.
Since their combination in Omkara had proved spectacular, it was generally believed that Ajay would bag a role in the filmmaker’s next too. We spoke to Vishal, who shrugged off the allegation: “That’s old news. Let’s not talk about it. With this film, Imran (Khan) has matured as an actor.”
Vishal seems to be extremely impressed with Imran’s histrionic range. “I can’t imagine anyone else playing the role in MKBKM. I don’t think even Ajay could’ve done it so well,” the filmmaker says.
Vishal also seems to have distanced himself from former favourite, Shahid Kapoor. When we quizzed him about Imran replacing Shahid in the sequel to Kaminey, the director conveniently rebuffed this query too. Sometimes, actions speak louder than words!
