It’s Shuddh Desi success for YRF
All box office predictions seem to have come true for this week’s releases Zanjeer and Shuddh Desi Romance. Earlier it was mentioned in this column here that the Yash Raj production had managed to create good hype prior to its release and hence would sail through comfortably at the box office. And that’s exactly what has happened.
Shuddh Desi Romance has managed to cross the `22-crore* mark in just three days, turning out to be a lucrative venture. The opening of the film, in fact, surprised many because although a 50 per cent start was on the cards, the film went on to consolidate its place on Friday evening itself, registering an even better occupancy. The film does come with its own set of loopholes but fact remains that the opening has already given it a “success” tag.
Zanjeer, on the other hand, was expected to open better in single screens. It couldn’t make inroads into multiplexes. It was also predicted that a lot would depend on the final product since the makers couldn’t depend on the opening day collections. But with a thumbs down coming in from most quarters, the film could bring in just around `10 crores* in the opening weekend and not much is expected from weekdays either.
