Katrina walks the talk
To say the unexpected has happened wouldn’t be much of an understatement. After being criticised for being all looks and little talent, Katrina Kaif has gone on to receive favourable reviews for her dignified performance in Rajneeti.
She ventured into new territory when she signed on for the Prakash Jha film. New, because it meant she would have to say her own Hindi dialogues without them being dubbed over by another artiste. She managed to impress her director by doing so and now critics also have good things to say.
About her performance in Rajneeti, acclaimed critic Taran Adarsh wrote, “Katrina Kaif is first-rate. The sincerity and earnestness shows in every sequence. She sheds her glam doll image and transforms into an actor with this film.”
For now, Katrina has silenced her detractors who claimed her British-accent would always stand in the way of bigger things. Since the beginning, she has been synonymous with candyfloss roles (apart from Kabir Khan’s New York). With Rajneeti, she is out to prove that she is here for the acting.
Jha said, “I believed in the character, I believed in her and I knew that she would be able to do it complete justice. She has dubbed her own voice —the Hindi speeches and everything. She has done it to perfection.”
Jha was so impressed that he plans to cast her in his next too. “My next movie is Aarakshan will star Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn and Manoj Bajpayee. I want Katrina in it as well. I am trying to convince her, but I haven’t shown her the script yet. I hope she likes it and I have the good fortune of working with her again,” he added.
