In love life and career, Sonam’s moving on

It would seem that the spotlight does love Ms Sonam Kapoor. None of her films have set the box office on fire so far, but somehow, the Kapoor kudi has mastered the art of being seen in the right places — in the right attire. Whether it was her dazzling photo-op at the red carpet premiere of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol in Mumbai or her pitch perfect dressing at the sumptuous Karl Lagerfeld-Chanel show in Paris, Sonam’s current good form would be the stuff of dreams for any publicist.
And now, the girl seems to have some more good news to offer. Having acted in only half-a-dozen films in the four years she’s been a part of Bollywood, Sonam is now picking up her pace, and has revealed that she will begin work on three big banner films next year. This would be in addition to the Rajkumar Santoshi film she’s already signed on for, opposite Abhay Deol, and Raykesh Omprakash Mehra’s Bhaag Milka Bhaag with Farhan Akhtar.
“Those are the films that I have already confirmed (to the media),” says a coy Sonam. “But yes, there are three other big films in the pipeline, announcements for which are just round the corner. The filmmakers decided to cast me after seeing my performance in Mausam.”
While we feel happy that at least some good has come out of Mausam, Sonam seems ready to move on into the future. And part of “moving ahead” means no more discussions on former “best pal” Ranbir Kapoor. “I honestly didn’t mean any malice,” says Sonam, referring to the now infamous incident where she and Deepika (Padukone) made some rather naughty remarks at Ranbir’s expense. “I don’t feel the need to clarify things, but there is no possibility of a patch up between us. As for the status quo between other people (Ranbir-Deepika), who am I to comment?”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
