‘Lucky to get well-defined roles’
In less than a decade Boman Irani has successfully created a unique identity in an industry dominated by superstars. With films like Khosla Ka Ghosla, the Munna Bhai and 3 Idiots, the actor has redefined the rules for character actors.
“It’s true that I started late but I have been extremely fortunate to get such well-defined roles,” he says, adding, “The industry has failed to tap the true potential of stalwarts like Om Puri, Manoj Bajpai and Irrfan Khan. They might not be the quintessential hero on screen but time and again they have proved that they are in their own league. They don’t need to prove their worth to anyone. The industry is slowly widening its horizon and writers are coming up with scripts that have enormous scope for supporting actors.”
Besides acting, Boman has also proved his worth in anchoring award functions and television shows. He’s a popular name in the advertisement industry as well. Now he is poised to embrace his new role as the jury member of the upcoming South Africa India Film and Television Awards. “I don’t believe in restricting myself. I want to reach out to the audience in every way,” he says.
