Million dollar baby: PeeCee

Priyanka Chopra may have lost out on a chance to work in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Ram Leela to Deepika Padukone. But it seems like PeeCee has stolen a Million Dollar Baby moment right from under Dippy’s nose this time round.

Apparently, the two talented actresses were in the reckoning for the lead role in SLB’s biopic on Olympian boxer Mary Kom, and that PeeCee has now, officially, been finalised.
“We have confirmed Priyanka Chopra for the lead,” said a spokesperson for the project. Apparently, SLB has been wanting to work with PeeCee for a long time, and we hear that after watching Barfee recently, he was blown away once again by her acting prowess. Perhaps that helped SLB settle on PeeCee for the biopic.
“This is the perfect script for Priyanka. Sanjay is sure that she will do a spectacular job in the lead role,” said one unit member connected to the film. Of course, one can’t help but remember that it was portraying a boxer that got Hollywood actress Hillary Swank her second Best Actress Oscar. Perhaps the role will prove lucky for PeeCee as well?
Whether or not she gets an award, 2013 is all set to be PeeCee’s year. With Krrish 3, the Zanjeer remake, YRF’s next and now the SLB project in her kitty, and her musical attempt In My City earning her lots of brownie points, the actress seems to be on a roll. All those who wrote her off after the failure of Saat Khoon Maaf will so have to eat their own words! PeeCee’s clearly having the last laugh.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
