A modern era for Lootera?
They’ve caused quite a splash with their 1950s era style and looks in the promos for Lootera, but Sonakshi Sinha and Ranveer Singh nearly missed out on their chance to act in a period film. In fact, that Ranveer and Sona would be part of the project was in itself, doubtful.
“Initially, the story of Lootera was set in the present. Then director Vikramaditya Motwane realised that setting the story in contemporary times wasn’t creating the impact he wanted,” said one source connected to the film.
That’s when he settled on the 1950s as the time period he wanted to set the story in, and chose the backdrop of a Bengali zamindar household for the love story.
“I wanted a certain innocence to the characters and that’s where the period element started seeming far more plausible. We are too connected in the modern era, and our attitudes are very cynical, so a love story wouldn’t have had as much of an impact if it was set in these times. The emotional sense of the 1950s was a different world altogether,” Vikramaditya said. “I was sure of Ranveer from the very beginning and as for Sonakshi, she fit the milieu like a glove.”
