Mukesh believes he is a ‘starmaker’
Known for his small-budget films and playing-to-the-masses strategy, Mukesh Bhatt asserts that it is a good script that makes a good film. “If you have big stars, nothing like it. But that cannot guarantee a hit. It’s a sensible director and a tight script that make stars out of actors. Not the other way round,” he says.
The producer who has launched a number of newcomers in the industry takes the credit for being a star-maker. “Why should I be modest about it? Yes, my humble films have gone on to become huge hits and in the process, made stars out of newcomers,” he says, reminding us that Emraan Hasmi is the biggest example of that. “And though Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapoor didn’t make their debut with Aashiqui 2, they did nail it after its stupendous success.”
Mukesh has completed 60 films, but is in no mood to slow down. “I keep telling them that this is just the beginning for me,” he says. We ask him about the possibility of casting his own niece and Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter Aalia in one of the Bhatt camp films and he says, “We would love to work with her, but for us, the script is the most important. We wouldn’t want to force her in a film.”
