In the name of the father
It has been quite a while since it was first announced that Amitabh Bachchan would be acting in the official remake of the Oscar nominated Belgian film Iedereen Beroemd (Everybody’s Famous). However, what has kept this Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra film from moving ahead, is the casting of another crucial character — that of a teenage girl.
“The film is a heartwarming tale of a father who wants his daughter to become a famous singer. While Bachchan Senior has been finalised to play the part of the father, the girl is yet to be cast,” says a source.
Since the girl’s role is quite pivotal and requires an actress of substance, Mehra doesn’t want to rush the process.
“Yes, we are still looking for a girl who can play Mr Bachchan’s daughter. We’ve launched a massive hunt to get the right girl for the part,” says Mehra, who marks his second outing with Big B after Aks, with this film.
The filmmaker is in even more of a quandary because he isn’t sure that any of the existing actresses in Bollywood can pass off as a teenager. “There are capable actresses in the industry but I can’t imagine anyone who looks like a 19-year-old,” he rues. “That’s why I’m insisting on casting a fresh face. The girl we cast will also need the confidence to act opposite Mr Bachchan.”
Not long ago, the sultry Jiah Khan actually managed to do that in Nishabd. But then of course, it was quite a different scenario. Up for auditions, anyone?
