No hattrick for Abhay-Kalki
Those who have been ardently waiting for an Abhay-Kalki hattrick may just be disappointed with their upcoming film Shanghai. Turns out that the film hasn’t paired them together and the two hardly share any common scene. An industry insider finds this odd, as Abhay and Kalki Koechlin’s pairing has fetched encouraging responses in both Dev D and the recent Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. “It’s very surprising that Dibakar Bannerjee doesn’t want to take this winning combination forward,” says the source.
Those closely associated with the film have said that Kalki will be going solo in Shanghai, because the film is more of a montage of varied characters rather than a lover’s rendezvous. Abhay testifies to this, saying, “Yes, it’s true that I am not paired with Kalki and hardly interact with her throughout the film. In fact, even with Emraan (Hashmi), I just have one scene.” Kalki seconds Abhay, saying that the script offers no reason for the characters to meet. “I can’t let out much about the plot. All I can say is that our characters are not interconnected, so we don’t meet,” she says.
So does this mean that the chemistry has shifted to Emraan? “Let me break one more myth here,” laughs Kalki, adding, “There isn’t any time to sizzle because I’m paired opposite no one in the film. I do have several scenes with him, but that’s about it.” Looks like Shanghai will be breaking lot of Mumbai rules.
