No joking about Joker
Contrary to news reports that Akshay Kumar is unhappy with the way costs have spiralled on the Shirish Kunder film Joker 3D, Akki insists that he is “ecstatic” about the way the film has shaped up. Almost 60 per cent complete, Akki says Joker is turning out to be truly a one-of-its-kind film.
Now many in the industry had raised doubts about the feasibility of Joker, considering that Akki’s previous outing with Shirish in Jaan-E-Mann hadn’t fared well at the box office. Also, Joker was seen as too much of an experiment, with a sci-fi storyline meeting 3D technology in a rarely tried combination.
But Akki’s belief in the film stayed strong, he says. “You can’t just say ‘Okay, let me make a 3D film because I want to make one’. You have to be knowledgeable enough to write a script that along with the use of 3D, creates exceptional cinema. Shirish has shown true conviction and faith in the film. This is one project that I am very proud of,” he asserts. Will the audience share Akki’s conviction though?
