Pony loves being the ‘star wife’

A successful choreographer and star wife, Pony Verma will soon step into a new role as a film director. Much like her contemporaries Farah Khan and Remo Fernandes who turned to direction after choreography, Pony too is gearing to make the switch, but not just yet. “I am currently assisting my husband Prakash Raj for a film he is directing, as I want to learn the craft thoroughly before I dive into it. But it’s definitely on the cards,” she says.
Pony who came under the spotlight for her moves in The Dirty Picture has recently shot a dance sequence with Priyanka Chopra and Ram Charan Teja for their upcoming film Zanjeer. One of the youngest choreographers in the industry when she started off, Pony admits that people often used to mistake her for being a wannabe actress. “I took to choreography for two reasons — to earn my bread and butter and my love for dancing. But things have changed after I married Prakash. Now I do it only for the latter since I don’t have to worry about bringing home the bread.” She admits that she loves the title of “star wife”. “I take great pride in my husband’s achievements. I don’t mind giving it all up for him and just being a star wife,” she adds. A busy couple, Prakash and Pony are on the move all the time. “Since our work requires us to juggle between Mumbai, Hyderabad aand Chennai, we have homes in all three cities. If we aren’t shooting, we don’t live in the city for more than ten days,” she adds.
