Preity won’t promote Paris

Preity Zinta doesn’t plan to go the Zoya Akhtar way and make her upcoming production Ishkq in Paris a French travelogue of sorts. A close associate of the actress and the film’s director Prem Soni says, “The makers are very particular about not being carried away by the artistic beauty of Paris. They want to impress their audience with the story, more than anything else.”
The makers claim that the story of the film could be set anywhere, be it Spain, Italy or even Australia. “Paris was just one of the choices available and since Preity has a thing for the city, she wanted her first production to kick start from there. Prem too had no objections, although he may have chosen Spain over Paris, considering he has lived there for 17 long years.” Maybe that’s why it doesn’t come as a surprise when he defends Zoya’s Spanish extravaganza in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. “I thought it was a beautiful film,” says Prem, adding, “I could connect to it more because I was brought up there. But as a filmmaker, I don’t think Zoya was promoting Spain. But having said that, I must also clarify that I am not comparing our film to hers. Both Preity and I are sure about portraying Paris in a way that it helps take the story forward, instead of reducing it to a fancy outdoor locale.”
But we must not discount the fact that both Preity and Prem have to be extremely cautious about this project, given that their last outings — Preity’s Jhoom Barabar Jhoom and Prem’s Main Aur Mrs Khanna — were complete washouts at the box-office. Let’s hope history doesn’t repeat itself.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
