‘Proud to be a grounded girl’
Being a celebrity, one is only too used to the spotlight — the attention and pampering being inherent to star lifestyle. But what happens when some people don’t treat them like a star? Looks like there are some who don’t treat Vidya Balan like a larger than life celebrity. “That’s my family. They are so unaffected by my star status that for them being a celebrity is no great shakes,” says Vidya, adding that it is for this reason that she loves the atmosphere at home.
“At home we never talk about films or filmi people,” she says.
She credits her mother for the levelheadedness of her family. “For my parents acting is a job, much like any other, where people go to work and return home to their families at the end of the day. My mother is most unmoved by my star status. She asks me to pick up and drop her to family events. I think sometimes she forgets that her daughter is now a celebrity,” says the actress.
But Vidya doesn’t mean to complain in the least. In fact, she is proud of her parents for having given her a very basic upbringing. “They even had a problem moving out of our old bungalow in Chembur, because they didn’t want to leave their set of friends,” she says. And Vidya loves this simplicity. “I am proud of being a simple grounded Tam-Bram girl.”
