Rajnikant on his co-stars
Superstar Rajnikant, the man with the Midas touch and loads of modesty, talks about five close associates.
“Kamal Hassan and Shah Rukh Khan were approached for this role but ‘daane daane par likha hai khaanewale ka naam’.”
Amitabh Bachchan
“I have always said that Amitji is my role model. He is my inspiration. I cherish the moments that we shared when we worked together in films like Andha Kanoon (1983), Giraftar (1985)and Hum (1991). I can’t forget the love that he showered on me. Before taking any major decision of my life, I consult him. I still remember the conversation that we once had for 30-45 minutes in Lonavala.
Kalanidhi Maran
Kalanidhi Maran, the producer of Robot is only 46 years old. He was born with a silver spoon, but he began his business at the age of 17 from scratch; and today he is the number one name in South TV networks. He is an icon. Without him, Robot wouldn’t have been possible.
A R Rahman
Rahman is a God’s favourite child, he is brilliant and Robot is his very best work in the recent past.
Aishwarya Rai
When I was at my brother’s place in Bengaluru, some Rajasthani people had come to stay as tenants in a nearby flat. On learning that I was there, a 60-plus man, Nandulal, came to meet me with his family.
We chatted and I told him I was acting and Aishwarya Rai was the heroine of the film.
By this time, his kids were telling him ‘dad, he’s the hero; dad he’s the hero’. He went away but I could hear him screaming inside: ‘What has happened to Aishwarya? Why is she working with him? What has happened to Amitabh Bachchan? Why is he letting Aishwarya work with him? And what has happened to Abhishek?’
So, thank you, Aishwarya, for working with me.
