Rakeysh Mehra cuts costs with newcomers
Producer Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, who gave three star studded films Aks, Rang De Basanti and Delhi 6 in the last decade has now decided to keep his costs low in all his films. The producer, raring to race ahead with the film Bhag Milkha Bhag, has decided to settle on a new face and not stars like Akshay Kumar or Abhishek Bachchan. “We are looking at a new boy or a relatively new boy. We are trying to make the film at a very low cost,” said Mehra, adding, “When we read the script we realised that if the viewer comes to see a star, they will be disappointed. Milkha is a character-driven script; he was someone who ran his first race for a glass of milk,” he said.
For another project, based on a Hungarian film, Mehra has united with his Aks team. Sunil Pande, who assisted Mehra during Rang De Basanti will direct the film. Besides these two projects, Rakeysh is all set to release another production called Teen Thay Bhai, a slapstick comedy, where once again, Mehra decided on a cast with no major stars. “I thought that the right cast for the film would be actors and not stars. Also, business wise, it became a very smart proposition. We made the film on a mere budget of seven crores,” he said.
