Rakeysh to re-release his debut film Aks
Buoyed by the success of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra now wants to resurrect his debut directorial affair Aks (2001). He is currently working on a “redux” version of the Amitabh Bachchan-Manoj Bajpayee starrer.
“When it released, it was one of the most awaited movies. It had opened well too but then owing to a complicated screenplay, edit pattern and an unheard of subject, the supernatural thriller couldn’t sustain its run. It was touted as a film that was ‘way ahead of its times’. But now Mehra feels that the film can be revived for the current generation of audience that is far more receptive to newer subjects and treatment,” says a source.
With his latest film BMB striking the right chords despite being set in three different time-zones, Mehra is confident of the return of Aks. The director says, “Well, back then they said that the film was 10 years ahead. Now 12 years have passed, so that means it’s time.” Mehra continues, “Many have come and told me that I should remake it or re-release it. Let’s see what I do with it. I am working on a ‘redux’ version. The first step would be to release a special DVD and BluRay. That’s a good way to ensure perpetuity for your film. Once that happens, we will take a call on the film’s theatrical re-run.”
