Ramu gets a real life reprieve

News of suspended police officer Daya Nayak being reinstated by the Mumbai police force came as sweet relief not just for the encounter specialist, but also for Ram Gopal Varma.

Varma’s upcoming film Ab Tak Chappan 2 is reportedly based on the life and times of Nayak, and his reinstatement results in a rather fortuitous merging of reel and real life.
“Ab Tak Chappan 2 was said to have gone on the backburner after Ramu’s disastrous experience on Department. But the recent news on Daya is just the shot in the arm it needed,” says an insider, suggesting there would be new vigour in the film’s promotion and subsequent release, especially considering the tagline of the film: “He is back. This time it is personal”.
