Randeep is boxing off the critics

After playing a suave police officer in Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai, Randeep Hooda is now looking forward to his next in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Deewani, where he’ll be enacting a boxer. The film is being written by Abhishek Chaubey of Ishqiya fame. For his new role, the actor is being trained by none other than Chiranjeevi, the former national coach of India and the film is based on the boxing scenario in the state of Haryana.
Randeep says boxing training has helped him a lot, personally. “It has taught me to hold on to your will when your body gives up,” says the actor. He plays a young boxer from the town of Bhiwani in Haryana, which is hailed as the Mecca of boxers. “Bhiwani is also called the ‘Cuba of India’. In a nutshell, I play a boy who tries to come out of there,” he reveals.
For the latest hit OUAT, Randeep has been bagging a lot of accolades. The actor, who was busy training himself in horse-riding until a while back, reveals that he was preparing for the Asian Games during that period. “I was training for horse-riding but director Milan Luthria insisted that I play the role. I am grateful to him now. What he had envisaged about my role came out in the first review of the film,” he says.
However, as of now Randeep says that he won’t be participating in the Asian Games. But he continues to remain positive. “I will do it some day and I won’t come back without a gold medal,” says a spirited Randeep.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
