Ranveer goes back in time
Why did it take you one whole year to sign Lootera?
I was being approached by several filmmakers but I told myself that I will only say yes to a film when the script hits me here (points at his heart). No other script did that to me as much as Vikram’s (Motwane) script. When he narrated the story, I was in tears. It’s a golden script, beautifully strung together.
After your very successful debut with Yash Raj, does a film like Lootera seem like a gamble? There is no gambling here. It’s one of those films which will make me feel proud when I look back on my career someday. I am not looking at the money. As an artist, it will be very exciting to work with a talented director and his team.
Your co-star Sonakshi is very excited to work with you. Are you equally excited?
Yes. I remember Youtube-ing the trailer of Dabangg, and when she delivered that dialogue...she had me right there. I have been wanting to work with her since.
Since Lootera is set in Bengal of 1950s, are you playing a Bengali character?
The film is set in Bengal; I can’t tell you too much about my character, but Sonakshi is playing a Bengali girl.
Which actors from that time inspire you?
Dev Anand and James Dean. They were real characters. I hope I’m able to build an original character through my film.
What’s the status on the third film with YRF?
It’s non-binding. So I can do films outside.
