Rohit turns Golmaal on its head for remake
Rohit Shetty may have officially purchased the rights to remake Amol Palekar’s classic Golmaal, but he is still making changes galore. From introducing extra characters to removing some from the original to having Abhishek Bachchan in a double role, Rohit has changed around everything, even screenplay and dialogues. “For starters, Bol Bachchan is keeping action in the forefront, with comedy as only an added ingredient, unlike the original which had it the other way around,” says an observer.
“This is indeed golmaal of the highest order. Rohit had declared right at the onset that he would be changing things about, but nobody expected him to twist the entire tale. He has made a very loud film, and instead of subtle comedy, the focus is on over the top action,” comments a filmmaker.
Sources say this was done keeping in mind the changed sensibilities of today’s audiences, who wouldn’t appreciate a subtle comedy like the original Golmaal. “What Rohit has done here is make his film commercially viable. Moreover, with his brand of humour and action, Bol Bachchan, should turn out to be a sureshot blockbuster,” says a trade veteran.
