Sri Lanka is in for a treat as the stars of Bhushan Kumar’s Ready — Salman Khan and Asin — are in the island country for the first schedule of the film. Earlier Bhushan had decided to shoot in Mauritius but on Salman Khan’s insistence, the location was changed.

“We were planning to shoot at a resort. We wanted a good location and we had seen some spaces in Mauritius, Goa and others but after Salman visited Sri Lanka, he told us that we should shift the shoot to Colombo. We sent people for a reconnaissance of the locale and it suited our script and hence we changed our minds,” said Bhushan.
The film is the remake of the Telugu hit starring Genelia D’Souza and South star Ram but Bhushan decided to have an entirely new starcast for the remake. “The lead female character is very humours, bubbly and cheerful. The first name that came to mind was Asin’s since she acted in Ghajini. We never thought of repeating Genelia in the remake,” says Bhushan.
Srinu Vytla directed the Telugu version while Anees Bazmee will direct the Hindi remake. “Anees has experience with remakes, of which all have been hits. He knows the Hindi audiences very well, hence we did not sign Srinu,” he says.
Ready is a comedic love story with an ensemble cast. “It has good action, three romantic songs and two peppy dance numbers. Salman is very charged about the whole film. The South version was a big hit. The original had all the ingredients of an entertainer. The action was the highlight of movie hence we decided to remake the film,” says Bhushan.
Bhushan also made changes to Salman’s character since he refused to play the role of a college boy. “He does not have the image of a college student so we decided to change the Hindi script. However, the narrative will be the same,” he says.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
