Salman’s clout looms over Ready
When Salman Khan has his way, there are not many who can stand up against him. And with his upcoming Ready, Salman has indeed put his foot down and is ensuring he gets things done his way. Keen to avoid the debacle of Veer, which was said to be too lengthy and boring, Salman has put himself in charge of all creative decisions with Ready, starting with the length itself, which is said to be significantly shorter than the original Telugu version.
“Bhai was very impressed with the original, but to cater to an all-India sensibility, Ready had to be much crisper. This meant that not only the length had to be controlled, but even the humour aspect had to be looked into,” informs a source, adding that certain portions have been changed quite drastically.
As a result of all the cutting, the film now runs just about two hours and 20 minutes, nearly 45 minutes shorter than the Telugu version.
Such was Salman’s clout and impact that even director Anees Bazmee came on board with his ideas. “They didn’t have any creative differences, as both agreed that a lot of re-working was required with Ready,” says producer Bhushan Kumar.
Bazmee says that they have tried to keep the basic skeleton the same, but have let go of some repetitive sequences. “The film, we feel, will now appeal a lot more to North Indian sensibilities. Just because you have the remake rights doesn’t mean you copy it like it is. The setting of the film has changed, as also has the humour,” Bazmee said.
Considering the creative differences Salman had with director Anil Sharma led to Veer’s debacle, Ready already seems to be on more solid ground.
